When is the latest time I can make a fully inclusive reservation?

The Fully Inclusive, discounted rates, are for booking in advance of your arrival day in Ireland. The reservation must be reserved at least 10 hours prior the pick-up time. If you are traveling over several time zones please factor that in. For example, if you are traveling from the USA's West Coast you are 8 time zones earlier than Ireland. So if you try to make a reservation at 3:00pm, it is already 11:00pm in Ireland. If your pick-up time is 6:00am, Irish time, then you are outside the booking window and the fully inclusive rate will not be available. The Hertz widget will provide a car rental quote but is will not be the fully inclusive discounted rate.

Can I use my Debit card with a MasterCard/Visa logo?

The Car Rental company needs a Recognized Credit Card for security purposes which needs to be produced along with your licence at time of rental. This is standard industry practice; therefore, we require a Credit Card to reserve. You can however use the credit card to secure the rental and produce at the counter and then have them charge the rental with your debit card.

Update: you can use a Visa debit card.  The procedure is the same as using a credit card but you must have funds available at the time of rental to cover the car rental amount plus fuel.  This amount will be blocked for the duration of the rental.  The rental amount will only be charged by Hertz when you return the car.

Can I have my credit card charged in Euros?

When you arrive at the Hertz Counter tell the Hertz agent at that time to have the payment processed in Euros rather than USD. What he sets in the computer at that time is what is done at the end of the rental when your credit card is charged. It is important that you make that choice at the start of the rental. The hertz agent may ask you anyway as it is one of the 'fields' that needs to be filled in as he processes your your rental. Here's a suggestion: Write a sticky note and place it on your driver's license to remind you to do it!

Note: On the Hertz Ireland Rental Agreement form that you will sign before receiving the keys states the Customer Preferred Currency Conversion (CPCC):

"For your convenience all customers have the option of Instant Return OR returning the keys  to the desk at the end of the rental at which time the CPCC option can be reviewed and your decision changed.  In the event of a Instant Return with CPCC, I have been offered the choice of two payment currencies: (i) my billing currency or (ii) local currency (euro).  This choice is final and the rate used for currency conversion will be determined by the merchant at a later date without my additional consultation.

The Customer Preferred Currency Conversion service is offered by Monex Financial Services and a mark-up of 2.75% is applied.  Exchange rate source: Reuters."

How do I find larger cars, SUVs and Minivans on the site:

Great questions?  We limit the car display page (where you go after you have submitted your dates and locations)

to 8 to 10 vehicles.  These inventory shown on the initial display is based on the most popular categories that are booked by clients.  If you DO NOT see the car size or category displayed then scroll to the bottom of the screen and you will see "Can't find what you're looking for?" That is followed by "At Hertz, we have a range of cars to suit everyone. To find the car you're looking for click the button to go through to the main Hertz site to make your selection..."  Click the "Show me more cars" button.

That brings you to the full display of the Hertz Ireland cars, starting with the smallest one at the top.  Right above the first car is a blue bar which states: "Results 1-10 Show all (25)" Click the show all 25 link.

You now have the full inventory of cars available to book for the dates you selected.  Select the car category you wish to get quote or to confirm.

Let's select the "Q" Nissan Qashqai.

You then come to an interim page "Choose Extras" where you can add children's car seats, NeverLost GPS navigation system, and Wi-Fi to your rental.  You will also see the vehicle photo selected on the right side along with the car rental itinerary information you provided.

Click any options or ignore them.  Click "Proceed to Review & Book."

The full display of your car rental is on the right hand side.  It should show the Fully Inclusive Rate inclusions: Unlimited Free Kilometers, Personal Insurance (Personal accident and effects), Tax (Value Added Tax), Location Service Charge (LSC),  Collision Damage Waiver (Excess Applies), Theft Protection (Excess Applies), Super Cover (Excess Waiver - waives the deductible to zero on Collision Damage and Theft).  Third party liability insurance is also included.

Complete the requested details along with your arrival information (if flying in) and your credit card to hold the reservation.  Hertz does NOT charge the credit card until you turn in the car.  However, the EURO rate is guaranteed once you have confirmed the reservation.

Click the Book Now button.

A confirmation will appear on your screen and will also be emailed to the address you submitted.  You're done!

Can I Purchase Tire & Wheel Damage Insurance?

I see that the Super Cover included in the Fully Inclusive Rate does not cover Tire, Wheel and Glass Damage.  Can I purchase additional insurance to cover tires, wheels and glass?  If I can how does it work?

Just recently Hertz Ireland is offering Wheel, Tyre and Glass Cover to those renters that have the Super Cover included in their rental.  So when you arrive at the Hertz counter you can ask the Customer Service Agent to add the optional CP - Tyre, Wheel and Glass Cover from €7 per day. The samller car categories are €7 per day (Groups A & B), €8 per day (Groups C, D, E, F, Q, R6) , €10 per day (GROUPS G, j, P, V, W, X) and the larger ones €13 a day Groups I, S, T, M, N, Y, S6, W6, X6, Y6, Z6). Once you accept the CP your financial responsibility for accidental damage or loss to the vehicle’s wheels, tires (tyres) and Glass will be reduced to zero.  However, CP does not cover breakdown call out charges in the event of requiring roadside assistance.  If during the rental you need to replace a tire (tyre) present the receipt at the Hertz return desk and an allowance will be made against your rental charges.
