Derry Airport, Northern Ireland

Derry Airport is one of three locations in Northern Ireland for Hertz partners ConnsIreland Ireland. Derry City dates back to the time of St. Columcille and the 5th century. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth I the Catholics were dispossessed and their lands given to lowland Scots and Presbyterians known as the Scots Plantation. In the early 17th century they constructed the Derry City Walls which are still intact and can be walked. St. Colum's Cathedral and the Guild Hall are two of sites you should visit on a walking tour of the city.

Derry Airport is also a launching site for touring the Antrim Coast to the east with Dunluce Castle, Bushmills Distillery, Giant's Causeway and more. To the west you would enter the Irish Republic and visit the Inishowen Peninsula and tour up to Mailin Head, the most northerly point on the island of Ireland. Further west is the Rosguill Peninsula, with beautiful and spectacular Sheepshaven Bay. You're in an Irish speaking area where you find the road signs and shop front names in Irish Gaelic. This area is a scenic wonder and is well worth a day or two of exploration. To the south of Derry City is the Ulster American Folk Park which chronicles the emigration from Ulster to America and beyond. You'll find out that 13 US Presidents trace their heritage back to Ulster. It has an indoor museum and an outdoor museum.
