Known for years as the centre of the crystal glass manufacturing business you'll be able to visit the House of Waterford Crystal. In recent years the Waterford Crystal factory closed down but the museum was built to carry on the history. The Meagher Quayside is now a burgeoning small glass makers community. The famous son of Waterford Town is Thomas Francis Meagher who was a general in the Union Army during the U.S. Civil War and later became the first Governor of the State of Montana. His former home is now the Granville Hotel. Some of Waterford old city walls still remain. Reginald's Tower, built by the Vikings over 1,000 years ago stands prominent on the quayside and was a tax collection point in its earlier days.
