Situated in the southwest Kerry airport is the gateway to the famous peninsulas as well as Killarney Town. Killarney Town is probably one of more famous tourist areas because of the 20,000 acre Killarney National Park, which is only accessible by foot, bicycle and jaunting cart. Be sure to take a jaunting cart ride through the park. Within the parks are three great sites: Muckross Abbey dating to the 13th century, Muckross House once a private residence and now a museum to Killarney life. Guided tours are available. Be sure to visit their formal gardens and farm as well. On the other side of the park is Ross Castle, a 15th century O'Donoghue Castle completely restored. It sits on the shore of Lough Leane where you can rent boats to explore the Lakes of Killarney. Killarney Town offers great shopping and entertainment with many, many pubs offering traditional Irish music in the evenings. You'll find a range of restaurants from fine dining to bistros throughout the town.

Based in Killarney you can use your ConnsIreland Ireland Hertz car to tour the famous Ring of Kerry drive around the Iveragh Peninsula through Killorglin, Glenbeigh and Cahirciveen. Here you can go out to Valentia Ireland. The first trans-Atlantic cable came in on Valentia Island. Continue around to Caherdaniel and the home of the Great Emancipator, Daniel O'Connell. On through Waterville and Sneem to Kenmare and then up the mountains through Molls Gap and a stop at Ladies View overlooking the Lakes of Killarney and Killarney Town. The other famous peninsular reached from Killarney is the Dingle Peninsula. Some say this has more spectacular scenery that the Ring of Kerry. Dingle Town is one of Ireland's busiest commercial fishing ports. It also hosts many wonderful gourmet restaurants. Beyond Dingle Town is the Slea Head Drive where you will experience dramatic scenery with the Blasket Islands in front of you. Stop at the Blasket Island Center and a little farther on the Gallorus Oratory dating to the 7th century. For an exhilarating drive take the Conor Pass over the mountains to Stradbally.
