Knock (Horan International) Airport, Ireland

It was here in 1879 that the Blessed Virgin appeared to the villagers and is now a famous religious shrine to Our Lady of Knock. Knock Airport is the gateway to the West where you can visit the quaint village of Cong which was used as a set for the John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara movie The Quiet Man. Nearby is Ashford Castle, once the summer home for the Guinness family and now a 5 start resort.

Directly to the west is the harbor town of Westport, with connection to the Pirate Queen Grace O'Malley. A bustling town and from here you can tour to Achill Island, the largest island off the Ireland coast. Knock can also be used as gateway to Galway and Connemara. Connemara is a unique Irish speaking area with dramatic scenery of purple mountains, deep blue lakes and streams and white-washed stone cottage dotting the landscape. It also brings you to Clifden and Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Gardens and Ireland's only fjord, Killary Harbor. To the east of Knock Airport is County Roscommon where you can visit Strokestown Park and learn about the Great Famine at the Famine Museum.
