Shannon Airport, Ireland

Shannon is the second major gateway into Ireland from North America and Europe. You are instantly in the Irish countryside. You'll want to visit the village of Bunratty nearby. Here you will find the Bunratty Folk Park, a recreated 19th century Village including 15th century Bunratty Castle. Bunratty Castle has been totally restored and can be visited during the day but in the evening it changes to a 15th century entertainment castle with two banquets offered. To the east of Bunratty on the banks of the Shannon River is Limerick, the City of the broken Treaty. Be sure to visit 12th century King John's Castle and the Hunt Museum. There is also an Angela's Ashes tour and the Frank McCourt center to investigate.

Shannon is the gateway to tour the southwest and west of Ireland. Once you pick up your ConnsIreland Ireland Hertz car head southwest to the picturesque village of Adare with it thatch-roof cottages and then on to Killarney. Touring north from Shannon you come to Dromoland Castle, once the seat of the O'Brien Clan, now a 5 star resort hotel. The next stop in this direction is Ennis where you can turn west to the Clare Coast and see the magnificent Cliffs of Moher and the lunar-like landscape of the Burren. If you continue north from Ennis you go through Gort and some William Butler Yeats sites of Coole Park and Thoor Ballylee. On then to Galway City, the gateway to Connemara
