Sligo Airport, Ireland

County Sligo is the land of William Butler Yeats, one of Ireland's great poets and writers. You will find sites associated with him through the county, nearby to Sligo Airport of Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery where you can learn about the passage graves that date back 7,000 years. Use your ConnsIreland Ireland Hertz car to continue your travel into Sligo Town, which is nearly 800 years old, you'll find traditional shop fronts, a riverwalk along the Garravogue River and nearby Lough Gill made famous by Yeats in his Lake Isle of Inishfree poem. Sligo Abbey and Parkes Castle are two places you won't want to miss. The scenery is of soft rolling hills with a dramatic mountain range of the Ox Mountain and the crown of Ben Bulben, a table-top mountain as a backdrop to the town.

Just north of Sligo Town is Drumcliff where Yeats is buried in the churchyard. There is a Yeats exhibition centre here as well. Continuing north from here you reach County Donegal and Donegal Town. The Belleek China factory is nearby. From Donegal Town you can venture to the west to Glencolumcille and to Slieve League and the Cliffs of Bunglass that are higher than the Cliffs of Moher. Donegal is famous for the woolen mills and tweeds. Several shops in Donegal Town will fit you out with a suit. Continue north to Glenveagh National Park and Glenveagh Castle and on to Derry City in Northern Ireland.
